A blog is a great way to show, not tell, what your company does. It can be a platform to share news and events, or simply to give travellers an insight into the world of travel. Whatever your goal, there are ways of writing compelling blog posts, ensuring that your blog is not just another “me too” travel site.

But where should you start? It’s easy to feel lost when faced with the blank canvas that is the sprawling landscape of the internet. There are no rules when it comes to content creation for your travel website blog, especially because your target audience will have different expectations depending on their interests and situation.

The most important thing is to start with a clear objective, or goal, and then you can have fun with the process once you’ve discovered what works for your audience. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Use blog posts to showcase or review a specific destination. For example, if you’re a company specialising in Ireland (a popular country) that offers guided tours and accommodation deals, you could showcase the famous Blarney Stone in your blog post about adventures around the country.

Or, if you’re a company that specialises in luxury hotels, you could review the food and service at a hotel, or offer tips for making the most of your break. Travel blogs are useful for doing this because people can read about other travellers’ experiences.

You could also do a blog post on how to make a packing list for your trip to this destination, using pictures and descriptions of what to pack. (Top tip: use numbered lists for easy reading.) This will help travellers know what’s expected when they visit your chosen country.

For example, a blog post talking about “Attractions Off The Beaten Path”.

In the example above, this would be places you might wish to visit during out-of-hours. These are likely to be places very different from the expected destination, and can give travellers something different to look forward to.

You could also do a series of them: one about a local nightlife, another on a town square or lakefront, etc. Make sure you keep these blog posts interesting and entertaining for your readers by providing fresh content regularly.

You could also use blog posts as a way to help your readers book their trip. Showcase a holiday you’ve just returned from, or provide tips for getting the best deals on your next vacation.
